About Jake

Jake Elwood was adopted by Tim and Jacque Meyer on October 14, 1999 from the Des Moines Animal Rescue League. Of all the puppies that were there, Jake was by far the cutest! Jake weighted 26 lbs. and we believe is part Collie and Chow. We also believe he is about 3 1/2 months old, so his birthday is un-officially July 4th.

Jake got acquainted with his new doctor on October 18, 1999, and all is well. He has some medicine to take as he does have a bit of a cold and he takes pills by just giving them to him, what a good puppy. As Jake got older tho, he figured out dad & mom would wrap the pill in a piece of meat, much better!

Actually, Jake has taken up just about all of our time since he landed here, but we sure are having fun with him. He has only barked a couple of times, and sleeps through the night just great. He really likes it outside, where he seems to think his job is to make little sticks out of bigger ones. What a life.

March 11, 2000, after having Jake for about 5 months now, we think he is Collie and Chow mix. He's starting to get purple spots on the tongue, and his tail is always curled up and fluffy. He also has a couple of manes that he did not have as a younger pup. If anyone would like to take Jake for a walk (and get your shoulder dislocated) stop by. Jake just loves long walks.

July 30, 2000. Jake is now un-officially one year old. We actually celebrate his birthday on July 4th. He seems to understand alot of what we are saying, sometimes too much! We seem to like 'our' walks when it's not very humid out, (& in Iowa how often is that?). Jake stays outside most days & inside every night, we don't need barking during the dark time. Jake has also learned to appreciate AC, he doesn't understand why it's not always on for his pleasure.

He has lost his pretty coat he had last winter. He still has a few tuffs to lose. The hair was wirey, but over the last week it has softened up a bit. He is still a lover. He does want his attention. On July 4, 2002, Jake celebrated his 3rd Birthday!! Happy Birthday Jake!

October 17, 2004. We went for a car ride today! Jake loves to have the wind blow in his face, plus all of the new smells! Jake met his newest cousin Brody, a little 13 inch Beagle. Then we drove out to Jester Park. Jake met his first elk. He was a ittle startled at first with the elk running up to him (there was a big fence between the two), but Jake got the last word in! (Doesn't he always?)
