RealAudio

There are two methods of serving RealAudio files, non-streaming and streaming.
Many clients have asked how to stream RealAudio content on their webpages. While we do not currently run a RealAudio server, you can still serve up streaming RealAudio content from your website. Below are instructions on how to accomplish this.

There are two methods of serving RealAudio files, non-streaming and streaming.

Non-streaming means the RealPlayer must download the entire file before it can begin to play. This is the normal method for small files. Any version of the RealAudio Encoder can be used to create the files and any version of the RealPlayer can be used to play it.

Putting non-streaming RealAudio files into your website is very easy. Just upload the file (with a .ra extension) to your account and put a link into your HTML that points to it.

Streaming means that the RealPlayer plays the file as it downloads it. This would be best for long files. However, this means you must use the latest RealAudio Encoder to create your files and your visitor must have at least version 3.0 of the RealPlayer.

Streaming RealAudio is only a little more complex. You still upload your .ra file to the server. However, you also create a companion pointer file with a .ram extension, which contains the URL for the .ra file. Your HTML page will contain the URL for the .ram file, not the .ra file.
